LEWISTON – Val Beckwith scored 20 points and Matia Kostakis added 18 more to lead Bates to a 75-66 win over CBB rival Colby College on Tuesday in a non-conference matchup at Alumni Gymnasium.

Kostakis led the Bobcats (8-5) with nine rebounds, while Sarah Barton chipped in with nine assists.

USM 75, Rhode Island 63

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Ashley Marble netted a game-high 22 points and hauled down 11 rebounds to lead the University of Southern Maine to a 75-63 victory over Rhode Island on Tuesday.

The win gave USM coach Gary Fifield his 500th career coaching victory in his 20th season with the Huskies.

Colby 73, Maine Maritime 56

WATERVILLE – Nick Farrell drained nine 3-pointers on his way to a career-high 35 points to lead Colby College to a 73-56 non-conference win over Maine Maritime on Tuesday at Wadsworth Gymnasium.

Drew Cohen added 11 points, five rebounds and three assists for the Mules (8-6), despite playing in just half the game due to foul trouble.

St. Joe’s 85, Thomas 66

WATERVILLE – St. Joseph’s had four players in duoble digits as they topped Thomas College 85-66 in college action Tuesday.

Chad Pulkkinen had 22 points, RJ Mattison scored 16, and Marcus Alexander and Elbie Murphy each netted 13 points a piece for the Monks’ win.

Bates 90, UNE 46

LEWISTON – Rob Stockwell went 8-for-12 from the field and collected a game-high 18 points to lead Bates to a 90-46 win over the University of New England at Alumni Gymnasium on Tuesday.

Brian Wholey added 13 points for the Bobcats (11-0) and Zak Ray had 11.

Stockwell and Sam Taylor led the team in rebounds with seven each.

RIC 67, USM 58

PROVIDENCE – Telstar grad Kinsey Durgin of Greenwood scored 13 points and grabbed seven rebounds to lead Rhode Island College to a 67-58 win over the University of Southern Maine on Tuesday.

Durgin led four RIC players in double figures as the team won its eighth straight game and improved to 11-1.

Junior forward Drew Coppenrath led the Huskies (4-9) with 15 points and 15 boards, and Troy Gabriele added 15 points on 5-for-7 shooting for USM.

Men’s hockey
USM 8, Framingham State 2

GORHAM – Senior Chris Sparkes and junior Mike Stevens had four points each to lead the University of Southern Maine to an 8-2 win over visiting Framingham State on Tuesday.

Sparkes had a pair of goals and two assists for the Huskies (7-5-1), and Stevens had four assists on the night.

Auburn native Kyle Smith, a sophomore, had a goal in the third period for Southern Maine, and Ryan Sullivan made 12 saves on 14 shots to record the win in net.
