LEWISTON – Dorothy (Dot) P. McCannell, 82, of Lewiston, passed away surrounded by her immediate family in Lewiston on Friday, Jan. 12, after a long courageous battle with cancer complicated by Parkinson’s.

She was born on Aug. 11, 1924, in Nova Scotia, Canada, to Jennie May (Fraser) Dickson and Roland John Dickson.

She was educated in Derby and Milo schools and married Neil E. McCannell of Princeton on May 3, 1947. She was proud to become a U.S. citizen in 1964, and while being a dedicated military wife and mother, she pursued a career as a certified nurse’s aid.

She enjoyed family gatherings and short travels and getaways with her sister, daughters and other relatives. She treasured holiday time with her family and loved spending time and sharing activities with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She became accomplished in the art of needlepoint and enjoyed receiving collectibles from traveling family members.

She was very devoted to her cat, Sammy.

She is survived by her sister and best friend, Lily Dwelley of Dexter; her sons, Donald Neil McCannell of Texas and his wife, Fatima, Dennis McCannell of Vermont and Roland (Dick) McCannell, and his wife, Jeana, of Monmouth; her daughters, Shirlene (Shirley) Gondek of Lewiston and Brenda McCannell, and her husband, Kim Wettlaufer, of Lewiston; her grandchildren, Anissa McCannell, Tracy, Lance and Derek Gondek, True Fahys and Dickson, Kurtis and Casey McCannell; her great-grandchildren, Ricky, Kayla, Jameisha, Reese, Winnie and Ellie; her sister-in-law, Sarah Dickson of Bradford; and her in-laws, Ruth Ann McCannell of Houlton and Edgar McCannell of Virginia.
