WILTON – WordPlay Theater has announced its second annual Burns Night celebration for Thursday, Jan. 25, the birthday of Scotland’s poet, Robert Burns.

A traditional Burns Night dinner and program will be held at 6:30 p.m. at the Boiler Room. The meal will be a buffet of Scottish soups/stews, salad and trifle. Vegetarian option will be available. The price will be $9 a person. To make reservations, call the Boiler Room at 645-3170. Seating is limited to 65.

The program accompanying the dinner will feature Doug Dunlap as the “Chairman”; Dale Hill reciting “Tam o’ Shanter”; Henry Braun giving the “Immortal Memory” address; Dan “Tree” Robbins delivering the traditional tongue-in-cheek “Toast to the Lassies”; and Anne Smith replying in kind with the “Response of the Lassies.” The haggis will be ceremoniously piped in, followed by a reading of Burns’ “Ode to Haggis.”

Other songs, toasts, jokes and poems by Burns will round out the evening. Some will be assigned ahead of time, others may be offered by audience members who wish to contribute extemporaneously.
