JAY – Senior guard Zane Armandi powered Jay to a 66-60 triumph over Wiscasset with 27 points in MVC boys’ basketball action Saturday.

Down by 12 with five minutes left in regulation, Armandi came up with an impressive 12 points carry the load in a come-from-behind win. He notched a double-double on 27 points and 10 rebounds for the Tigers (4-8), including 11 points from the line.

Freshman forward Austin Clark also recorded a double-double for Jay with 18 points and 13 rebounds.

Sophomore post forward Jason Dennison led the Redskins (7-4) with 17 points on eight field goals and a free throw.

Waynflete 47, St. Dom’s 41

AUBURN – Andrew Veroneau scored 11 points in the first quarter as Waynflete School burst out to a 19-10 lead. The Flyers went on to hold off St. Dom’s for a 47-41 win in boys’ basketball Saturday.

Veroneau finished with 19 for the Flyers (9-2). Lucas O’Neil added 10 for Waynflete.

The Saints (9-3) were led by Joe Bonneau with 16 and Dave Roux with nine.

Greely 75, Poland 45

CUMBERLAND – Caleb Jordan had an outstanding performance with 22 points as Greely dominated for a 75-45 victory over Poland in boys’ basketball action Saturday.

Gabe Balcano-Brookes chipped in with 11 points for the Rangers (12-0).

The Knights (4-7) were paced by T.J. England with four field goals, including three from beyond the arc.

Messalonskee 68, Leavitt 57

TURNER – Senior forward Eric Taylor scored 22 points to lift Messalonskee to a 68-57 triumph over Leavitt in KVAC boys’ basketball action Saturday.

The Eagles (9-1) found a groove in the third quarter on a 19-1 run to put the game out of reach.

Senior forward Tyler Millett notched a double-double for the Hornets (5-5) with 21 pionts and 10 rebounds. Senior point forward Cameron Angell recorded a game-high 23 points on seven field goals and six three points, including three treys.

Medomak 80, Oak Hill 58

SABATTUS – Zack Durkee scored 24 points to lead Medomak Valley to an 80-58 win over Oak Hill in KVAC boys’ basketball Saturday.

Jason Rhoda had 13 and Justin Ames chipped in 10 for Medomak (8-5).

The Raiders (1-12) got 14 from Bronson Drury and 11 each from Nate McDonald and Shawn Greenier.

Hockey

Falmouth 3, St. Dom’s 2

FALMOUTH – Mike Chase and James Tolan teamed up to produce two goals as Falmouth edged St. Dom’s 3-2 in hockey action Saturday.

After a Sheldon Roy tally in the first period, Tolan set up Chase for the equalizer at 8:04. The two connected for the lead goal in the second at 1:18. Falmouth’s Nick Galli made it 3-1 in the third. Jacob Rutt got the Saints within one at 8:06 of the third, but St. Dom’s couldn’t produce the equalizer.

C. J. Fortier stopped 31 shots for Falmouth (8-2) while Nate Brown had 19 saves for the Saints (4-5)

Leavitt 6, Lake Region 1

AUBURN – Steve Rouillard scored three goals to send Leavitt to a 6-1 victory over Lake Region.

Rouillard scored in the final minute of the first period to give Leavitt (6-6-1) the early lead. Rouillard then scored the eventual game-winner one minute into the second period.

Cody Violette, Eric Theiss and Drew Bent also scored for the Hornets. Ian Biggers had a goal for the Lakers (6-6). Leavitt goalie Richard Thibeault made 15 saves.

Hebron 2, New Hampton 1

NEW HAMPTON, N.H. – Carmine Zegarelli scored the eventual game-winner at the 5:52 mark of the second period as Hebron notched a 2-1 victory over New Hampton in hockey action Saturday.

Ryan Gormley broke the scoreless tie for the Lumberjacks (14-5) at the 5:34 mark of the second period.

Tom Jenkins found the back of the net for New Hampton late in the second period to prevent the shutout.

Goalie Kevin Crosby made 16 stops for Hebron, while Matt McCarthy deflected a barrage of 40 shots for New Hampton in the loss.

Scarborough 3, Lewiston 2

GORHAM – Jason Quirk netted a pair of goals to lift Scarborough to a 3-2 victory over Lewiston in boys’ ice hockey Saturday.

The Blue Devils (3-7) drew first blood in the second period behind a goal from Matt Letourneau, but the Red Storm (6-3) responded with a pair of goals from Quirk to take the lead in the third period.

Justin Nadeau evened things up for Lewiston with a goal at the 10:40 mark of the third period. But, Scarborough retook the lead for good with a goal in the final minutes.

Lewiston goalie Dylan Labonte witnessed a storm surge of shots, making 40 saves for the Blue Devils. Josh Larrabee had 15 saves for Scarborough.

Girls’ basketball

Dirigo 62, Wiscasset 33

WISCASSET – Shannon Daley and Megan Russell combined for 35 points as Dirigo cruised to a 62-33 win over Wiscasset in MVC girls’ basketball action Saturday.

Daley had 18 points while Russell had 17 and five steals and five assists.

The Cougars also got seven points from Abby Fenstermacher and six from Katie Hutchinson.

Livermore Falls 49, Boothbay 47

BOOTHBAY – Caryn Howell scored 24 points to lead Livermore Falls to a 49-47 come-from-behind victory Saturday in MVC girls’ basketball.

The Andies (7-4) were down 42-35 late in the ballgame but rallied as Howell produced 11 points in the final quarter. Rachel Ventrella added eight for the Andies, while Missi O’Connor contributed seven.

Georges Valley 39, Mountain Valley 32

RUMFORD – Georges Valley built a 12-point cushion through three quarters and coasted to a 39-32 triumph over Mountain Valley in girls’ basketball.

Hyde 50, Hebron 18

HEBRON – Hyde limited Hebron to five field goals Saturday and pulled away for a 50-18 girls’ basketball victory.

Mahalia Gauld and Stephanie Urzua scored 12 points each for Hyde. Six of Kainani Stevens’ team-high eight points for Hebron came from the foul line.

Greely 59, Poland 38

POLAND – Sophia Zrioka scored a team-high 14 points to pace Greely to a 59-38 victory over Poland in WMC girls’ basketball action Saturday.

The Rangers (9-3) executed some hot shooting in the middle frames as Kristen Biskup tallied 13 points and Megan McDevitt another 12 points.

Junior guard Jen Dionne led the charge for the Knights (4-6) with three field goals and five free throws for 11 points in the loss.

Medomak 38, Oak Hill 17

WALDOBORO – Medomak Valley kept Oak Hill’s offense from getting on track Saturday in a 38-17 victory in girls’ basketball.

Anna Lufkin led Medomak with nine points. Ambyr Provost led Oak Hill (2-10) with eight points. Just four Oak Hill players scored.
