ST. STEPHEN, New Brunswick (AP) – Five people face charges following an attempt to enter the United States at an unauthorized crossing on the border between New Brunswick and Maine.

Three men from the St. Stephen, New Brunswick, area and two Guyanese nationals, a 40-year-old woman and a young person, were picked up at Mohannas, New Brunswick on Sunday.

The arrests were the result of a joint investigation by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and the Canada Border Services Agency after receiving a tip the day before.

RCMP Staff Sgt. Mitch McMillan says all five were stopped on a train trestle that crosses the border in a remote area near St. Stephen.
