FARMINGTON – Taxpayers voted at a Tuesday night special town meeting to transfer an additional $10,000 from the undesignated fund to pay for a new boiler for the municipal building.

The vote came about a month after a town meeting requesting $25,000 to purchase three small Bantam boilers, which were later found to be insufficient for the space, Town Manager Richard Davis said.

The $35,000 figure was the next-lowest bid the board received, from Ranor Inc. of Jay.

Resident Bill Crandall had asked the board to consider purchasing a corn-fired boiler for part of the building’s needs.

Davis said the current boiler – which at 30 years old is 10 years past its projected life span – has been failing almost daily for the past few weeks.
