RUMFORD – Police are seeking help from the public to find a maroon Toyota pickup involved in a hit-and-run accident early Wednesday afternoon at Yvonne’s Car Wash on Route 2.

Sgt. David Bean said early Wednesday evening that police learned of the mishap when a Waldo Street resident went to the police station to report the 12:45 p.m. incident.

Police are looking for a man in his 50s who apparently left the Toyota in gear.

“The vehicle started backing up and struck him and knocked him down, then it slammed into the woman’s vehicle,” Bean said.

The pickup driver, who possibly suffered a shoulder injury, got up, got in his truck and drove off, the sergeant said.

Damage to the woman’s 1996 silver Ford car was estimated at $1,200. “The truck, which she said had a stripe down the side, should have side damage rather than rear damage. It also had ice fishing gear in the truck bed,” Bean said.

Anyone with information is asked to phone the station at 364-4551, Bean said.
