LEWISTON – Police are searching for a woman suspected of spraying an older woman with chemical spray Thursday afternoon in a robbery outside Hannaford on Sabattus Street.
Police said that about 1:45 p.m., a woman wearing a gray knit cap approached an older lady in the parking lot, sprayed her with mace and then ran off with her purse.
Police said the suspect then ran to a small, gray car and drove away.
The elderly woman was treated for the effects of the spray and the search began for a suspect. By Friday night, no arrests had been made.
Police working with the victim and witnesses on Friday created a composite drawing of the thief. She is described as under 5 feet, 6 inches tall, and weighing 100 pounds. She is believed to be between 35 and 45 years old.
