YWCA receives donation

from Hannaford Foundation

LEWISTON – The YWCA of Central Maine has been awarded $5,000 from the Hannaford Charitable Foundation for the upgrading of its vans.

“We were thrilled to learn of the Hannaford Charitable Foundation’s generosity toward the YWCA. We transport children for our child care and summer camp and need reliable, safe transportation for them,” said Anne Craigs, executive director. “We will start a transportation upgrade fund and plan to upgrade our transportation as soon as we have enough funding to purchase a small school bus.”

The Child Care Department has grown considerably in the past year and will grow again in 2007.

“We care for almost 100 children every day,” said Pam Murphy, director of child care services. “We use our vans for field trips and to transport children to and from school. Transportation is critical to the quality of child care services and summer camp programming.”

In 2006, the YWCA expanded child care services to include infants and toddlers from the age of 1 to 2. In response to community needs, the YWCA will seek to expand the infant room this year.
