WORCESTER, Mass. – Earl M. Carpenter, 88, a resident of Worcester, Mass., passed away Monday, Jan. 29.

He was born on Oct. 9, 1918, in Carney, Okla., the son of Louis R. and Mabel (Ball) Carpenter. He was a 1940 graduate of Oklahoma State University and received a master’s degree in business administration from the Wharton Graduate School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania in 1947.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, achieved the rank of Lt. Colonel and was awarded the Purple Heart medal. He married the former Geraldine H. Dostie on Dec. 20, 1946, in Philadelphia, Pa. They lived in Worcester and West Boylston and on Cape Cod, prior to Mrs. Carpenter’s death in 1989.

He joined the State Mutual Life Assurance Co. in Worcester in 1954, as assistant auditor, working his way to vice-president, public relations. He retired in 1983, after 29 years of service.

He is survived by several nieces and nephews, including Dorothy Jenkins of Florida, Lareeca Jordan of Oklahoma, Lois Fowler of Arizona, Debra Thompson of Oklahoma, Dr. Stephen O. Glenn of Oklahoma and his nephew and godson, Dr. Dennis Earl Glenn of Georgia.
