DOVER-FOXCROFT (AP) – A Dover-Foxcroft man has been charged with aggravated assault after allegedly burning a 4-year-old boy with cigarettes.

Joshua Nanney, 18, was arrested Sunday after the boy’s mother, with whom Nanney was residing, took her son to the hospital.

The boy had apparent burns behind an ear and on an arm and a leg, said Dover-Foxcroft police Chief Dennis Dyer.

Nanney admitted accidentally burning the boy behind the ear when the boy bumped into the cigarette, but denied knowledge of the other burns, Dyer said.

The Department of Health and Human Services removed the boy from the mother’s home on Sunday, but later returned the boy, Dyer said.
