DIXFIELD – Dirigo bounced back from its first loss of the season in strong fashion Wednesday with an 84-47 victory over Wiscasset in MVC boys’ basketball play.

The Cougars (14-1) lost to Winthrop on Saturday, but rebounded by breaking open a 19-15 lead with a 21-7 outburst in the second quarter.

Dirigo received contributions throughout the lineup. Colby Knapp finished with 19 points, nine rebounds and four assists, while Thomas Knight added 18 points. Josh Daley chipped in 12 points and seven assists, and Mike Holmquist had 11 points, eight rebounds, three steals, three assists and three blocks. Spencer Berry contributed 10 points, seven steals and six assists.

Wiscasset (9-6) was led by Matt McRae with 18 and Jason Dennison with 12.

Gould 43, Rangeley 39

BETHEL – T.L. Tutor popped in 16 points to propel Gould to a 43-39 victory over Rangeley.

Evan Bruens chipped in for undefeated Gould (11-0) with 11 points, the only other player to reach double digits. Rangeley struggled out of the gate, trailing by 12 at the break.

The Lakers were paced by David Jensen with a 15-point effort, while Ben Bliss added 10.

Mt. Abram 59, Madison 41

MADISON – Wyatt Johnson drained a game-high 22 points as Mt. Abram rolled to a 59-41 win over Madison.

Sam Simspon chipped in for the Roadrunners (5-11) with 14 points.

Mt. Abram jumped out to a 19-9 lead in the first quarter and never trailed.

The Bulldogs (1-15) were paced by Ryan Carpenter with 10 points, while Ezra Gourley contributed with nine.

Buckfield 77, Pine Tree Academy 54

FREEPORT – Zach Cowett poured in a game-high 21 points to lift Buckfield to a 77-54 rout over Pine Tree.

John Condon chipped in for the Bucks with 13 points, while Kyle Rines and Tyler Weymouth added eight apiece.

Pine Tree was paced by Cody Lounder with a 20-point performance, while Aaron Vail added 11.

Buckfield jumped out to a 22-8 lead in the first quarter and was never challenged.

Biddeford pulls away from St. Dom’s

BIDDEFORD – Biddeford scored four goals in the third period to break open a 1-1 tie Wednesday in a 5-2 triumph over St. Dom’s in high school hockey action at the Biddeford Ice Arena.

St. Dom’s produced 26 shots in the third period, but had one goal to show for it. Tigers goaltender Tony Dube kept the Saints at bay, while Biddeford received goals from Tyler Fleurent, Shawn Greute, Nick Reny and Derek Reny.

St. Dom’s tied the game at 12:35 of the second period on a Spencer Teixeira goal. Fleurent put Biddeford ahead at 4:48 of the third, but the Saints answered that on a Simon Hebert tally at 7:05. Greute then scored the game-winner at 9:14.

St. Dom’s goalie Nate Brown had 15 saves on 20 shots.

Skowhegan 5, Poland/GNG 0

WINSLOW – Grady Mishonski netted a pair of goals and added an assist Wednesday evening to lead Skowhegan to a 5-0 rout over Poland/Gray-New Gloucester in high school hockey action.

Brett Savage, Jacob Tracy and Mike Lyman also tallied for the Indians to complete the scoring. Jimmy Quirion made 17 saves in net to record the shutout.

Sean Bilodeau and Sam Mason split time in net for Poland/GNG, combining for 20 saves in the contest.
