This is in response to Jason Ready of Windsor (Jan. 26). This is Maine, and it is, indeed, cold. How many average temperature days have we had?

If anyone looks back to the record-high temperature we had in early January, the high temperatures were followed by record lows.

The point I had attempted to make in my previous letter was global weather is, and has been, affected by our human presence here, and can be proven by scientific fact. It took President Bush six years to finally mouth the words “climate change,” but what has he announced to help combat it? Nothing.

I merely mentioned Al Gore’s movie, “An Inconvenient Truth,” because it’s a medium for the masses, based on scientific facts, not a political agenda. Gore did study under a leading scientist that measured carbon dioxide levels in our atmosphere during his college days and has been pursuing the issue since the 1980s.

My guess is that I offended some Bush-backing oil investors in my Jan. 14 letter who are still in denial, and not ready to accept humankind’s impact on the weather.
