What a fun little story about animal abuse in the Reporter’s Notebook: “Flushing Fun for Feline.” (Jan. 29) It even ended with a cute little exclamation point!
Presumably, because it was a live mouse flushed down the toilet (after three tries, and while a curious cat was watching) no one at the newspaper considered the act to be animal abuse and thus, inappropriate as the subject for a whimsical story. We are fairly certain, though, if it had been a kitten flushed down a toilet the newspaper would not have been so insensitive.
The paper probably would have left out the exclamation point, too.
