AUBURN – Senior guard Abby Gilbert notched her 1,000th career point in the first quarter and collected a game-high 15 points to lead St. Dom’s to a 44-26 victory over Sacopee Valley in WMC girls’ basketball action Saturday.

The Saints (9-7) jumped out to an 11-4 lead after the first quarter and improved to 24-15 at the break.

Britini Murch paced Sacopee (2-14) with eight points on three field goals and a pair of free throws.

Fryeburg 59, Poland 32

POLAND – Junior guard Bryane Hennessey poured in a dazzling 28 points to lead Fryeburg to a 59-32 triumph over Poland in WMC girls’ basketball action Saturday.

The Raiders (12-2) dominated in the first half, allowing only three points in each of the first two quarters to be scored by Poland.

Junior guard Danielle Belanger led the Knights (4-12) with 10 points on two field goals and six free throws.

Boys’ basketball

Poland 66, Fryeburg 51

POLAND – Joe Douglass narrowly missed a triple-double with seven points, 14 rebounds and 11 assists Saturday, leading Poland to a 66-51 WMC boys’ basketball win over Fryeburg.

T.J. England scored 20 points and hit five of the Knights’ nine 3-pointers. Nick Douglass added 11 points for Poland (6-10), which jumped out to a 20-5 lead after one quarter.

St. Dom’s 58, Sacopee Valley 49

AUBURN – Senior center Andy Allen tossed a game-high 19 points and nine rebounds to lead St. Dom’s to a 58-49 victory over Sacopee Valley in WMC boys’ basketball action Saturday.

Senior forward Joe Bonneau contributed 18 points on five field goals and eight free throws for the Saints (12-4).

Sophomore guard Blais Whitney drained a team-high 18 points for the Hawks (4-12), while junior center Dustin Stanton tallied 11 points.

Hockey

GNG/Poland 7, Sanford 4

HEBRON – Cory Cormier scored four goals Saturday, including two in the third period, to help Gray-New Gloucester/Poland put away Sanford, 7-4, in a Class A hockey game at Robinson Arena.

Two of Cormier’s goals came in a topsy-turvy first period that ended with the Redskins in front, 4-3. Seth Champagne tied the game at 2:20 of the second period, and Zach Arnold put the Patriotic Knights (7-9) ahead to stay on a power-play goal 54 seconds prior to intermission.

Ben Piper notched three assists for GNG/Poland. Justin Milose had a goal and set up two others.

Cam Thibeault collected a goal and an assist for Sanford (2-10).

Sean Bilodeau made 28 saves for the Patriotic Knights.

St. Dom’s 6, Cheverus 2

PORTLAND – Six different players scored a goal Saturday for St. Dom’s in a 6-2 Class A hockey victory over Cheverus at Portland Ice Arena.

Sheldon Roy and Ben Randall each notched a goal and an assist for the Saints (6-7-1). Alex Tyburski, C.J. Bergeron, Andrew Gwarjanski and Casey Parker also lit the lamp for St. Dom’s, which jumped out to a 4-1 lead with four goals in a seven-minute span of the first period.

The Saints fired 63 shots on Cheverus goalie Mason St. Hilaire. Dustin Oberlander and Simon Hebert collected two assists apiece.

Andrew Pochebit scored both goals for the Stags (4-10-1), who forced Willie Emerson to make 32 saves for St. Dom’s.
