NEW YORK CITY – Universityo f Maine freshman Lauren Forgues won the bronze medal in the inaugural women’s one-mile racewalk at the 100th Millrose Games.

Showing the strength and spped that marked her career at Boothbay High School, Forgues took off with the lead pack and stayed with them throughout the race until the last few laps. She finished fourth with a new personal record time of 7:15.37, but since second-place finisher Rachel Lavallee was racing for Canada and was not amongst the U.S. finishers, Forgues picked up the bronze medal.

Loretta Schuellein won the race in 6:52.12. University of Maine at Farmington senior Kate Dickinson of South Berwick finished eighth with a season-best time of 7:56.65. In the men’s race, Michael Boucher of Ellsworth, a freshman at UMF, finished 10th in 7:13.95 despite being ill prior to the race. Two-time Olympian Tim Seaman won his third-consecutive Millrose racewalk with a time of 5:51.18.
