TURNER – Wentworth Woodworking and Run N’ Gun emerged in a tie for first place in the Leavitt Men’s Basketball League following Sunday’s games.

In an overtime thriller, the Woodworkers edged Liberty Mutual 83-77 as Robie Wentworth netted 25 points. Scott Bessey collected 19 for Liberty.

Patrick Dempsy poured in 27 points to lead Run N’ Gun to a 118-71 win over St. Hilaire Roofing. Mike Grahm registered 20 for the Roofers.

Wentworth and Run N’ Gun are now tied for the sunberth with identical 8-1 records.

In other action, Fitness World defeated Shooters 96-73 as Pat Blais popped in 24. Drew Leavitt paced the Shooters with 22.

Aaron St. Pierre torched the nets for 40 points as Ranor turned back Lloyd’s Land 96-83. Jerry Verrill netted 21 for Lloyd’s.

AAU tourneys set

The dates for the State of Maine AAU Basketball Tournament have been established.

The Girls State Tournament is set for April 22 (if needed) and April 27-29. The Boys State Tournament is scheduled for April 28-29 and May 5-6.

Once again there will be an End of Winter League starting the week of Feb. 12 and running through March, 2 games each evening for school and AAU based teams, 5-9.

There will be an open tryout for any player seeking to play on a team (including Maine Hoops teams) at Howard Sports in Saco on Sunday, Feb. 25, the girls from 9-10:30 a.m., and the boys from 10:30 to 12:00. Coaches are invited to attend to look at potential players.
