LEWISTON – The Lewiston Maineiacs inconsistent ride through the second half of the season continued Wednesday night.

Alex Grant, Chris DiDomenico and Keven Guerette-Charland scored for Saint John, and Travis Fullerton rebounded from a series of rough outings to make 24 saves on 25 shots to lead the Sea Dogs to a 3-1 victory over the Maineiacs in front of 3,005 at Harbour Station, ending Lewiston’s three-game winning streak.

“I don’t have any excuses,” Maineiacs coach Clem Jodoin said. “We had a good team meeting before the game, but we need to battle harder.”

Jodoin pointed to sloppy play in the neutral zone and a lack of discipline in the loss.

“We tried to beat one, two, three guys in the neutral zone,” Jodoin said. “We can’t do that. Our game, we need to dump the puck and work the cycle down low. When we did that, we were good, but we need to do it more. We need to play every game now like it’s Game 7.”

DiDomenico scored his 20th of the season just 2:17 into the game while Michal Korenko sat in the box. Grant scored his eighth of the season – and fourth against the Maineiacs – at 8:58 of the second, again on a power play, to make it 2-0. Charland added an even-strength goal on a defelction in front at 17:20 to push the home team’s lead to 3 goals.

“We have to stay out of the box,” Jodoin said. “We take too many penalties.”

In the third, Lewiston started to scratch back with a power-play marker of its own. Eric Castonguay converted a feed from Pierre-Luc Faubert from Kevin Marshall at 5:40 to pull Lewiston back to within two, but Fullerton and the Sea Dogs shut the door.

Peter Delmas stopped 28 of the 31 shots he saw in the loss for the Maineiacs, who remain six points ahead of Cape Breton in the Eastern Division standings.

Lewiston next plays Saturday night at the Androscoggin Bank Colisee when it hosts Drummondville in a 7 p.m. game.
