BREWER -Riley Robinson of Dixfield, representing the Rumford Elks Lodge #862, captured the Boys 8-9 Division crown in the Maine Elks State Hoop Shoot Championship held last weekend at Brewer High School.

Robinson was also presented the Amos A. McCallum Outstanding Shooter Award for making 19 of 25 shots. The award was presented by Past National President Amos McCallum of Saco.

Robinson first won the Local Hoop Shoot competition sponsored by Rumford Elks, then captured the Central District Championship at Augusta.

He and the other five state champions have earned a berth in the regional contest to be held March 23-25 in Nashua, N.H.

Following are the state winners and runners-up in the various divisions, along with the Elks affiliation:

Girls 8-9: 1. Lauren Rockwell, Houlton; 2. Taylor Sargent, Portland. Boys 8-9: 1. Riley Robinson, Rumford; 2. Josh Schneler, York; 3. Andrew Paterson, Presque Isle. Girls 10-11: 1. Abigail Pyne, Bangor; 2. Cheyenne Malloy, Skowhegan-Madison; 3. Haylee Potter, Portland. Boys 10-11: 1. Jacob Moody, Wells; 2. Tyler Thayer, Bangor; 3. Seth Malloy, Skowhegan-Madison. Girls 12-13: 1. Alexandra Palazzi-Leahy, Portland; 2. Katelyn DeRaps, Bangor; 3. Allyssa Marson, Augusta. Boys 12-13: 1. Tyler Blanchette, Skowhegan-Madison; 2. Matthew Bullard, Sanford; 3. Cody Savage, Bangor.

A second special award was presented at Brewer. The Allan W. Richard Outstanding Shooter Award, in memory of the late Allan Richard who served as the MEA’s Hoop Shoot Chairman for 19 years, was given to Alexandra Palazzi-Leahy. She canned 23 of 25 shots.
