DIXFIELD – The Dixfield Congregational Church will hold an Ash Wednesday service at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 21. All are welcome.

Special meeting

MEXICO – A special meeting of the Region 9 School of Applied Technology Cooperative board has been set for 9 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 21, at the school. The sole agenda item is to take action on a request to apply for a cash flow loan.

District meeting

RUMFORD – The Rumford American Legion and Auxiliary will host the district meeting at 7 p.m. today at the post home, Congress Street. All posts from Oxford County are invited to attend.

Support group

RUMFORD – The cancer support group, Lean On Me, will meet at 6 p.m. today at Rumford Hospital. The group is for cancer patients and their families.

Story hour

MEXICO – Stories about hats will be includes in books read during Mexico Public Library’s preschool story and craft hours, for children ages 2 to 5, at 10 a.m. today. Books includes “Milo’s Hat Trick” by Jon Agee, “The Hat” by Jan Brett, “Snowballs” by Lois Ehlert and “Caps for Sale” by Esphyr Slobodkina. For the craft, the children will design their own hats.

Class luncheon

MEXICO – The Stephens High School Class of 1954 will meet for luncheon at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 21, at Dick’s Restaurant. All are welcome.

Legion meal

RUMFORD – American Legion Post 24 will serve a pork chop meal from 4:30 until sold out Thursday, Feb. 22. The meal also includes stuffing, mashed potatoes, vegetables and dessert.

The meal is open to the public and members. Takeouts are available by calling ahead at 369-9053.

Poker run

BYRON – The Roxbury Slippery Sliders Snowmobile Club will host a poker run on Saturday, Feb. 24. The starting point is the schoolhouse, and cards will be available from 10 a.m. to noon. Lunch will be available at noon.

Lenten lunch

RUMFORD – St. Barnabas Church will serve a salmon pie Lenten lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the first three Fridays of Lent, Feb. 23, March 2 and 9.

The menu includes pie with egg sauce, coleslaw, vegetable, rolls, dessert and beverage.

The price is $6.50 and take-outs will be available by calling 364-2193 on Friday mornings.

Church program

DIXFIELD – The Dixfield Seventh-day Adventist Church will sponsor “Learn to Accept Yourself and Understand Others,” a six-week program to be held from 6 to 8 p.m. starting Wednesday, Feb. 21.

Esther White, a long-time resident of the area, will present the four basic temperaments and how they interact with various relationships, such as family members, friendships, marriage, parent/child and those in the workplace.

Also presented will be how a person’s temperament impacts their emotions and how and why they react to situations the way they do. The final two sessions will show how the temperaments take part in personal territorial boundaries and birth order.

The church is located on the corner of Route 142 and Blayne Street. In order to have enough handouts for each one, those attending should call 562-4649.

Library raffle

MEXICO – The Mexico Public Library will sponsor a 50/50 raffle to benefit the library. Tickets will be available until Saturday, March 3, at the library when the drawing will take place at a public spaghetti supper, also sponsored by the library. The meal will be held from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at Calvin Lyons Hall.

Raffle tickets are $1 a ticket, $2 for three tickets or $5 for seven tickets. Participants do not need to be present to win. For more information, contact the library at 364-3281 or library@mexicomaine.net.
