• Resolutions favorable to the passage of the bill of the Union Water Power Co. regarding the dredging of the outlet of the Rangeley lakes in order to increase the supply of water for the mills along the Androscoggin were adopted at a special meeting of the Lewiston and Auburn Merchants Association held. The resolutions will be sent to the Committee on Legal Affairs at Augusta.

• Augusta – A resolve was presented in the body (Senate) condemning polygamy and asking for an amendment to the Constitution of the United States prohibiting such practices.

50 years ago, 1957

• A major voltage change in the Rowe’s Corner area of Auburn will soon be completed by the Central Maine Power Co., according to an announcement by Roland S. Rand, Lewiston district manager. Rand said the change is another step in the firm’s policy of converting outlying electric distribution lines to an operating voltage of 12,470 volts and 7,200 volts instead of formerly acceptable voltages of 4,160 and 2,400.

• Veterinarians in the Lewiston-Auburn area are warning dog owners about an increasing number of cases of canine heartworm, a disease which is potentially fatal to dogs.
