Food for thought

LEWISTON – The Senior College “Food for Thought” luncheon program series at USM/Lewiston-Auburn at noon Friday, March 9, will feature presentations by the instructors of the upcoming Senior College spring semester courses at the college.

The program will be held in the Function Room 170 at USM/L-A. Attendees will have the opportunity for early course registration and to tour the college after lunch.

The cost, which includes lunch, is $6 with advance reservation or $8 at the door, opening at 11:30 a.m. Reservations should be made by Thursday, March 8, by phone at 753-6510, or online at usm.maine.edu/lac.

Motocross meeting

DURHAM – Maine Bicycle Motocross (ME BMX) will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 8, at the Durham Town Office, 630 Hallowell Road. The meeting is open to the public.

Hypnosis refresher

LEWISTON – Central Maine Medical Center’s Health and Wellness Services will present “Hypnosis for Weight Loss – A Refresher”at 6 p.m. Wednesday, March 14, at the CMMC Health and Wellness Center, 12 High Street Medical Office Building.

The program is for those who have previously completed a hypnosis weight loss class. The one-session refresher will focus on techniques learned in the earlier session.

Women’s day

LISBON – A Women’s Health Awareness Day will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, March 31, at the Lisbon United Methodist Church. Women should dress comfortably and bring a lunch and drink.

For reservations, contact Bethany Williams at 353-5124. Session will include five rotations of health awareness: cooking, relaxation, diabetes, pilates or yoga and breast care awareness.

Booster breakfast

LISBON – The Lisbon High School Boosters Club will sponsor a breakfast from 6 to 11 a.m. Saturday, March 3, at the Left Hand Club, Ferry Road. Tickets are $6, and proceeds will benefit the athletic programs at Lisbon High School. For more information, contact Mary Beth at 353-2264.

Scholarships

POLAND – Applications are being accepted for the Bruce M. Whittier Memorial Scholarship. Whittier, a Mechanic Falls resident and teacher at Poland Community School, was killed in an accident in the fall of 1997 when he stopped to help a motorist in trouble.

Two $1,000 scholarships for further education will be awarded to graduating seniors from Poland Regional High School. Applicants may apply through their high school guidance department. Applications must be received no later than April 13.

Nature trek

CASCO – Nature Trek, a program of Momentum Inc., will host a “Day on the Ice” at Owl Pond from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, March 9. It is part of a series of integrated outdoor trips for adults with and without disabilities.

Events will include a half-mile hike on a packed winter trail to ice fish, cross country skiing, snowmobile rides, snowshoeing, parachute games and campfire cooking. Lunch, snacks and hot chocolate will be provided.

Health screenings

AUBURN – Life Line Screening will offer health screenings on Thursday, March 22, at Auburn Adult Education, 77 Harris St. Appointments will begin at 10 a.m.

Screenings involve the use of ultrasound technology and scan for potential health problems related to blocked arteries, aortic aneurysms and hardening of the arteries in the legs. Bone density screenings will also be available to assess the risk for osteoporosis.

All four screenings take less than an hour to complete. A complete vascular screening package is $109. A vascular package and osteoporosis screening is $129.

Bridge results

LEWISTON – The Lewiston-Auburn Bridge Club winners at the Multi-Purpose Center on Feb. 27 were: first, Nancy Lindgren and Les Buzzell; second, Patricia Garcia and David Lock; third, Patricia Smith and Shirley West; fourth, first in B, Charles Bartlett and Allie Boyer; second in B, Mary Leahey and Claire Lyons.

Winners at Schooner Estates in Auburn on Feb. 28 were: first/second tie, Martine Begert and Patricia Garcia with Paul Barber and Luke Merry; third, Sherrie Hinckley and Sally Magee; first in B, Carolyn Robertson and Anna Vitiello; second in B, Mary Leahey and Claire Lyons.
