Lewiston city councilors are acting like children. As elected officials, they showed no respect for the new mayor, Larry Gilbert. I take my hat off to councilors Normand Rousseau, Stavros Mendros and Paul Samson for being grownups.

My councilor, Ronald Jean, had to keep up his regular schedule of a shopping trip to Brunswick. That schedule would not allow attendance? Councilor Lillian O’Brien sick? But she said that even if she hadn’t been sick, she wouldn’t have attended. At the end of the day, people can see where Mark Paradis stands.

I hope Mayor Gilbert cuts Council President Renee Bernier off, just as Bernier cut him off while he was speaking at one meeting. Is City Administrator James Bennett a part-time city employee? I think the new mayor comes before the Maine Municipal Association.

I encourage Mayor Gilbert to stand up to some of those councilors.

I believe the people of Lewiston are behind him.
