BANGOR -The Maranacook Area Youth Hockey Association Peewees earned a semifinal berth in the Bangor Friendship Tournament during the weekend.
Maranacook opened the 12-team tourney with a 6-3 victory over MidCoast of Brunswick-Topsham. Chris Stanley and Ian Palmer each netted 2 goals. Tom Pietroski and Tony McGiver also lit the lamp. Assists went to Stanley and McGiver. Allen Leech tallied 2 goals for MidCoast. Henry Nichols scored the other. Nichols, Austin Kidder and Leech received assists. River Mullan was the winning goalie. Eric Liddy donned the pads for MidCoast.
Maranacook stayed unbeaten with a 3-1 win over Central Maine Black of Waterville-Skowhegan. McGiver potted 2 goals and Stanley 1. Drawing assists were Pietroski, Tyler Lang and McGiver. Aidau Caulkin collected the lone Central goal. Mullan donned the pads again for the winners. Ben Weeks and Kaim Nelson shared the net duties for Central.
Maranacook and Penobscot Valley White (Orono-Old Town) skated to a 3-3 tie. Palmer scored 2 goals and McGiver the other. Alex Ingram, Stanley and Palmer received assists. John Wilson, Sam Ward and Nick Gaudet notched the Penobscot goals. Aaron Pinkham earned an assist. Mullan again was between the pipes..
In a semifinal game, Maranacook dropped a tough 4-3 decision to eventual tourney champ Presque Isle. Tyler Stockford netted 2 goals and Palmer the other. Shaw led PI with 2 goals with Lundquist also denting the twines. Lundquist and Benson drew assists. Mullan was in goal.
Maranacook is now 16-11-3 on the season.
