Portland Ballet Company along with 200 singers in The Choral Art Society will present Carl Orff’s masterpiece “Carmina Burana” Saturday, March 31, and Sunday, April 1, at Merrill Auditorium in Portland. “Carmina Burana” is a collection of songs about wine, women and love based on poems in Latin, Old German and Old French. Lyrics focus on the fickleness of luck, the inevitability of death, the joy and pain of love, and the predominance of human frailties over virtues. Performances are at 8 p.m. Saturday and at 3 p.m. Sunday.
