LEWISTON – The Stanton Bird Club is once again sponsoring a Spring Birding Festival in celebration of International Migratory Bird Day to take place on Saturday, May 19, at the Thorncrag Nature Sanctuary.
The event will offer various speakers on topics such as “The History of Thorncrag” and “The Effects of Climate Change on Birds.” Several guided birding walks will take place.
In addition, there will be many planned hands-on activities for children and a free hot dog or omelet lunch at the Anthony fireplace.
The event is being offered free to the public.
Volunteers are needed to pre-cut and pre-drill simple design wood birdhouses for assembly by children or to donate prizes with an environmental theme, port-a-potties, activity tents, glue sticks and other crafting supplies, bottled water for the volunteers, reel of tickets, apples, marshmallows, reams of paper and/or photocopying for distribution of flyers to elementary students in the Lewiston/Auburn schools and nearby schools.
