PORTLAND – The Portland Sea Dogs’ doubleheader against the Trenton Thunder, scheduled for 6 p.m. Tuesday, has been postponed due to inclement weather. The two teams will attempt to play a doubleheader on Wednesday, April 18, at noon at Hadlock Field.

Fans with tickets for the April 17 rainout may exchange their tickets at the Hadlock Field Box Office for a ticket of equal or lesser value to any remaining 2007 Sea Dogs home game, subject to availability.

Tickets to the April 18 game are good for both games of the doubleheader. The two teams will play two seven inning games.

UMF to add sports

FARMINGTON – The University of Maine at Farmington will add three sports to its intercollegiate athletics program. UMF will add women’s lacrosse, men’s volleyball, and women’s golf, increasing the total number of varsity sports to 14. The women’s golf program will begin competition this coming fall, while women’s lacrosse and men’s volleyball will reach varsity status in 2009-2010.

Cynthia Pratt, who currently coaches the UMF field hockey team, will serve as head coach of the women’s lacrosse program, while the men’s volleyball coach will be announced at a later date. The women’s golf team will begin forming this coming fall, joining with the men’s team to create a coed program under current men’s coach Bob Timmons.

Beers named men’s cross country coach

WATERVILLE – Jared Beers has been named the head coach of the Colby College men’s cross country and track and field programs after spending this academic year as interim head coach of the teams.

Beers, who is currently in the middle of coaching Colby’s outdoor track and field season, helped the Mules’ indoor track and field team finish nearly 40 points better at this year’s Maine State Indoor Track and Field Championships. Colby also went from no individual champions in the 2006 meet, to four in 2007.
