WATERVILLE – Alyssa Crowell allowed just two hits and received adequate run support as Colby rolled past Bates 5-1 in collegiate softball action Thursday.

This was the 400th career win for coach Dick Bailey. Now in his 11th season at Colby, Bailey has a 154-144-3 record and formerly lead St. Joseph’s team from 1985 to 1995.

The Mules (9-5) scored three runs in the first inning and added lone runs in the second and fifth. Amy Palmer and Carlie Minichino both doubled in the first and the Mules got an RBI single from Christine Gillespie. Miki Starr added a sacrifice fly and Mollie Puskar had an RBI on a fielder’s choice.

Palmer put Colby up 4-0 when her RBI groundout scored Alainia Clark, who had two walks and was hit by a pitch in her three at-bats. Minichino and Tory Starr each had two hits and one run scored for Colby.

Bates (4-8) posted its lone run when Katie Franklin hit a homer in the fourth inning with two outs. Franklin had both hits for the Bobcats.
