TOPSHAM – Junior Dillon Trundy smashed a three-run homer in the seventh inning for a little breathing room as Oxford Hills grabbed its first win of the season, a 16-9 victory over Mt. Ararat in KVAC baseball action Saturday afternoon.

The Vikings (1-0) received fine offensive support from junior Dan Millett, who had four hits and three RBIs, including a double to his credit. Trundy’s three-run shot over the outfield fence in the seventh put the Vikes up 13-9 at the time.

The Eagles (0-1) were led by junior Bob VanNote, who tied the game at 4-4 on a three-run home run in the fourth inning.

Maranacook 10, Oak Hill 6

WALES – Sophomore pitcher Troy Spencer found the strike zone more often than not, earning a pair of strike outs as Maranacook took a 10-6 win over Oak Hill in a season opener in KVAC baseball action Saturday afternoon.

The Black Bears (1-0) were powered by three hits from Casey Spencer, who also collected three RBIs.

Junior Tom Edgecomb and senior Ethan Guerette recorded four hits apiece and combined for five RBIs as the Raiders (0-1) outhit Maranacook 15-9. Oak Hill gave up nine walks for the difference in the game.

Softball

Oxford Hills 12, Mt. Ararat 0

TOPSHAM – Jen Jurczak fired a no-hitter and struck out nine batters over five innings to lead Oxford Hills to a 12-0 triumph over Mt. Ararat in a KVAC softball season opener.

Mindy Rigg led the Vikings with three hits, including a triple. Megan Gauger also had a triple.

Sam Dolloff (two hits), Diane Ramsey and Teirra Durgin all hit doubles.

Oxford Hills blew the game open with six runs in the fourth inning to extend the advantage to 10-0.
