JAY – After watching in horror as Georges Valley rallied for six runs in the sixth inning, Jay hung on for an 11-10 win Tuesday in a thrilling MVC baseball matchup.

The Tigers (1-0) built an 11-0 lead after four innings of play, 10 of which came in the third. Yet, when the Buccaneers’ (0-2) Larson Platt belted a three-run home run in the fifth, the momentum began to shift.

Georges Valley added three more runs in the sixth, cutting the margin all the way down to one run.

Things got a little hairy for Jay, but the Tigers held their ground. Austin Clark led Jay with three hits and two RBIs, while Mike Holland added two hits.

Starter Rocky Desanctis picked up the mound win for Jay, while Travis Carpenter was credited with the loss. In addition to Larson’s big homer, Georges Valley received two hits apiece from Nick Lemieux and Alec Young.

Boys’ lacrosse

EL 8, Mt. Blue 4

AUBURN – Zach Ward and Andrew Brodsky each tallied a pair of goals as Edward Little recorded an 8-4 win over Mt. Blue in boys’ lacrosse action Tuesday.

The Eddies (2-0) saw goals from four different players aside from the Ward and Brodsky goals.

Bryan Campbell, Matt Nyholm, Isaiah Rembert, and Donnie Dufour each scored a goal a piece, while Brodksy was credited with two assists. Derek Racine led the solid defensive effort, making 19 saves to preserve the win.

Kevin Averill, P.J. Brophay, Zack Conlouge, and Andrew Hardy each scored for Mt. Blue (0-1).

Softball

Telstar 3, Mt. Abram 0

BETHEL – Sophomore starter Candace Hall hurled a one-hitter and saw her team capitalize on a key error as Telstar pulled off a 3-0 victory over Mt. Abram in a season-opening MVC softball matchup Tuesday.

The Rebels (1-0) put a pair of runs on the board in the third inning. Josie Reiss ripped a fielder’s choice up the middle to score Vicky Rice, while Reiss scored on a passed ball. Telstar added an insurance run in the sixth inning, which assured the victory.

The Roadrunners (0-1) had three runners on base during the game, yet none crossed the plate.

Veteran pitcher Logahn Walker struck out six on the hill for Mt. Abram. Joseline Belanger played a strong game defensively, helping to keep Mt. Abram at bay.

Georges Valley 8, Jay 6

JAY – Erin Judkins ripped a timely single in the eighth inning that plated Danielle Frye as Georges Valley pulled out an 8-6 victory over Jay in MVC softball action Tuesday.

Jessica Keaton and Ashley Geer led the Buccaneers (1-0) with two hits apiece, while Desiree Smith and Frye smashed a double and triple respectively.

Frye allowed nine hits and struck out nine to notch the win.

Both pitchers in this contest were freshmen, yet their performances were strong.

The Tigers (0-1) were paced by Desiree Castonguay and Liz Leblanc with two hits each. Lexi Smith handled pitching duties, allowing nine hits and fanning 10 in the contest.

Oak Hill 12, Lincoln 2

WALES – Becca Roberts went 4-for-5 with two RBIs to lead Oak Hill to a 12-2 rout over Lincoln Academy in a season-opening KVAC softball matchup Tuesday.

Angie Russell chipped in for the Raiders (2-0) with four hits and one RBI, while Julia Dyer and Chelsea

Rioux combined for four hits and three RBIs. Russell allowed just four hits while recording the win.

Kelly Lincoln was credited with the loss for Lincoln (0-2).
