LEWISTON – Eddie West went the distance and struck out 11 batters, steering Lewiston to a nail-biting 6-5 victory over Morse in a Class A baseball game Wednesday.

The Blue Devils (1-0) won their opener when Robbie Leeman scored on a wild pitch in the sixth inning. Leeman walked and ended up on third base on a sacrifice fly and an error.

For Lewiston, Alex Wong and Nick Blais had a pair of hits. Blais and Jon Paradie smacked doubles.

Morse received a pair of hits from Kevin Hutchinson, Riley Walker and Dillon Moreau.

Poland 5, Yarmouth 3

YARMOUTH – Jake Pelletier tossed a three-hitter through six innings and struck out five to lead unbeaten Poland to 5-3 victory over Yarmouth.

The Knights (3-0) pecked away with single runs in the first, third, fourth, sixth and seventh innings. Joe Douglass, who had two hits, led off the third inning with a home run to right field.

The Clippers rallied in the seventh and had the tying run at the plate before reliever Will Griffiths retired the final batter on a ground out.

Mountain Valley 8, Lisbon 2

RUMFORD – Andy Shorey and Ben French each had two hits and two RBIs as Mountain Valley posted an 8-2 win over Lisbon in MVC baseball action Wednesday.

Shorey and Justin Staires each hit an RBI double for the Falcons (2-0) win. Matt Lyons recorded the win on the mound, striking out four, and walking only one in five innings.

For the Greyhounds (0-1), Tyler Brown had two hits.

Livermore Falls 12, Madison 3

LIVERMORE FALLS – Mike Durrell smacked a solo homer in the third, and finished the day with four hits, including a double, and three RBIs, as Livermore Falls cruised to a 12-3 win over Madison.

Zack Keene had a solid day both on the mound and at the plate with eight strikeouts en route to recording the win,. He also had four hits, including two doubles, and four RBIs for the Andies (1-1).

Josh Tainter added two doubles, while Kyle Stebbins contributed an RBI off a double as well.

The Madison (0-2) effort was paced by Ryan Carpenter with a pair of hits.

Cony 10, Leavitt 0

TURNER – Cony took full advantage of 11 walks, three hit batsmen and five errors to pull away to a 10-0 victory over Leavitt.

The Rams (1-1) scored four times in the third, thanks to a combination of errors and walks. Leavitt (1-1) remained in contention as starter Nick Letourneau and reliever Scott Redmun held Cony to two hits through five innings.

Cony finally put the game away with six runs in the sixth.

Tim Daniels had a double for Cony.

Winthrop 10, Jay 7

JAY – Dave Ricker’s RBI home run sparked a seven-run first inning as Winthrop ran away with a 10-7 victory over Jay. Rusty Schmelzer, pitcher Forest Dwyer and Jake Steele all contributed with doubles for the Ramblers (2-0).

Dwyer allowed eight hits, but his defense was tight enough for him to post the win.

The Tigers (1-1) were paced by Nick Bourassa with three hits and two RBIs, highlighted by a home run. Eric Clark and Jamison Turner also belted home runs for Jay. Zane Armandi allowed six hits and was credited with the loss.

Gardiner 12, Mt. Blue 0

GARDINER – Kyle Stilphen belted a three-run home run in the fourth inning to pace Gardiner to a 12-0 romp over Mt. Blue in a KVAC matchup.

Stilphen went 3-for-4 for the Bulldogs (2-1) to lead their offensive effort. John Bobrowiecki allowed just two hits in his first varsity start and received plenty of support at the plate.

Adam Gilbert started out on the mound for the Cougars (0-2) and was tagged with the loss. Joe Gilbert and Justin Lowe tallied one hit apiece.

St. Dom’s 8, Sacopee Valley 5

AUBURN – Peter Lewis blasted a bases-loaded triple in the fourth inning to lift St. Dom’s to a 8-5 victory over Sacopee Valley.

Lewis then stole his way home to seal the deal. Kasey Parker chipped in for the Saints (1-0) with two hits on the day. St. Dom’s starter Aaron Allen notched the mound win.

The Hawks (0-1) were paced by Brian Fox with three hits and two RBIs, while Robbie Day added two hits. Dan Stanton was saddled with his first loss of the young season.

Oxford Hills 6, EL 2

AUBURN – Ethan Sutton hit a solo homer in the fourth inning to give Oxford Hills the advantage it needed to preserve its 6-2 win over Edward Little Wednesday in a KVAC baseball matchup.

Ben Goodall had a two-run double in the second to bring the Vikings (3-0) up from 1-0 deficit, and give them a lead they wouldn’t back down from for the rest of the contest.

Matt Verrier also hit a double for the win.

Ryan Yates got the win on the mound with a solid pitching performance.

The Eddies (0-1) were paced by Kyle Buissiere with a double in the first inning.

Mt. Abram 8, Carrabec 7

SALEM – Pat Anthony smacked the game-winning run to score Chris Smith as Mt. Abram slipped past Carrabec to post an 8-7 victory in eight innings Wednesday.

Nate Smith hit a leadoff double for the Roadrunners (1-0) win.

Carrabec’s (0-1) Aaron Lane and Brian James each hit a double and a single for the effort.

Oak Hill 8, Rockland 1

ROCKLAND – Ethan Guerette belted three hits and had two RBIs to lead Oak Hill to a 8-1 rout over Rockland in KVAC action.

Josh Jillson hurled seven innings of one-hit baseball and got plenty of run support. Catcher Brandon Plourde chipped in for the Raiders (1-3) with two RBIs.

Rockland (1-1) was paced by Dom Morrill with an RBI double. Starter Nick Little was saddled with the loss.

Hebron 14, Gould 4

BETHEL – Bump Heldman smashed a three-run home run in the third inning to pace Hebron to a 14-4 victory over Gould in a prep school baseball matchup Wednesday.

Hebron (1-1) put five runs on the board in the second inning and added five more in the third.

Josh Shanbaum worked the hill for four innings, allowing five hits and four runs while posting the win.

Gould (0-2) jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning but fell flat shortly after.

Gary Rumley and Leo Leonardi handled pitching duties.

Lacrosse

Oak Hill 10, Camden 4

WALES — Nate Lavoie registered four goals and an assist as Oak Hill posted a 10-4 win over Camden in a boys’ lacrosse matchup Wednesday.

The game was evenly matched until the fourth quarter when Oak Hill stepped up and pulled away from a close 5-3 contest, making it, what would be, the game-winning score at 10-4. Joe Gilbert and Kevin LaPlante each had two goals a piece, while Drew Janelle and Nate Brown each added a goal a piece for the Raiders (3-0).

Caleb Fournier stopped 12 shots to preserve the win.

Hebron 18, New Hampton 3

HEBRON – Bobby Thoits netted seven goals and added an assist to lead Hebron to a an 18-3 rout over New Hampton in prep school boys’ lacrosse action Wednesday.

John Whalen chipped in for Hebron (4-0) with three goals, while Charlie Cummings, Cameron Gosney and Roman Gosney tallied two each. Brendan Beer’s single goal completed the scoring. Keith MacDonald made six saves in net to notch the win.

New Hampton (1-2) was paced by Chad Deluca with two goals, while Kevin Casey added one.

Greely 11, St. Dom’s 2

AUBURN – Greely erupted for seven unanswered goals in the final quarter to pull away for an 11-2 victory over St. Dom’s.

Trailing 4-0 at halftime, the Saints (0-1) rallied back with goals by Cam McKee and Evan Gove to close to within 4-2 early in the fourth quarter. The Rangers (1-1) responded with seven consecutive goals to close out the contest.

Andrew Cole scored three goals and Eric Thompson and Marlon Shephard-Kegl had two each for Greely. Trevar Haesele made 13 saves for the Saints.

Mountain Valley 8, Wiscasset 3

WISCASSET – Craig Hamann notched three goals to lead Mountain Valley to an 8-3 win over Wiscasset on Wednesday.

Nate Mills and Chris Taylor each scored a pair of goals, while Tyler White rounded out the scoring effort for Mountain Valley (1-1).

For the Wiscasset (0-2) effort, Nick McLeod, Nick Ames, and Corvin Percy each scored a goal a piece.
