Dear Sun Spots: I am an avid reader of Sun Spots on a daily basis. I have written to Sun Spots many times, and the column was very helpful. You do a great job and a great service to and for many people. Keep it up.

I have two questions; hopefully you can help.

My first question is, when and why did the A.J. Wright department store on Brighton Avenue in Portland close and why?

My second question is, whom would I contact to have incorrect information removed from public records? Intelius has incorrect information on file in public records, that pertains to my name. I would like to get the incorrect information removed, but don’t know who to contact regarding this information. I have contacted Intelius, and they told me they can’t remove any information regarding public records. Thank you for your help. – No Name, No Town.

Answer: In addition to responses from readers, regarding your first question, AJ Wright in the Pinetree Shopping Center closed Jan. 18, 2007.

According to a representative of TJX, the parent company of AJ Wright, the closure was part of a repositioning for future growth. On Nov. 30, 2006, AJ Wright announced it would be closing 34 out of 162 stores. The Maine location was one of those. The representative noted that the closings give the division a firmer platform for AJ Wright to go forward, continue growing.

In the meantime, you might be interested in checking out the AJ Wright at Main Street Marketplace Plaza, 300 Main St., Suite 404, Nashua, NH 03060, 603-595-8090. It is open Monday to Saturday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sundays from noon to 6 p.m.

And lastly, regarding your question on Intelius, according to www.ussearch.com you need to contact the credit reporting agencies directly. Each agency has its own procedure for correcting information in or obtained from its credit reports. Contact them at:

Experian, P.O. Box 949, Allen, TX 75013, 800-682-7654; Trans Union, 760 West Sproul Road, Springfield, PA 19064-0390, 800-888-4213; and Equifax Information Services, P.O. Box 740241, Atlanta, GA 30374, 800-685-1111.

The site also notes that those wishing to obtain copies of information from public or publicly available information sources, or choose to correct inaccuracies to information in such sources, needs to contact such sources directly. These sources include local, state and federal government courts and agencies.

For example: In the case of a military search, you should contact the appropriate branch of service. In the case of a judgment search, you should contact the appropriate state, local or federal court. In the case of bankruptcy or liens, you should contact the appropriate federal bankruptcy court. For automobile and license information, you will need to contact the appropriate Department of Motor Vehicles.

To remove yourself from the US SEARCH Public Record Profile, you should contact them by writing a letter giving your complete name, name variations, mailing address, date of birth, and Social Security number to: Opt-Out/US SEARCH.com Inc. 600 Corporate Pointe, Suite 220, Culver City, CA 90230. Inclusion in the opt-out database occurs approximately 30 days after receipt of the request.

This column is for you, our readers. It is for your questions and comments. There are only two rules: You must write to the column and sign your name (we won’t use it if you ask us not to). Letters will not be returned or answered by mail, and telephone calls will not be accepted. Your letters will appear as quickly as space allows. Address them to Sun Spots, P.O. Box 4400, Lewiston, ME 04243-4400. Inquiries can also be posted at www.sunjournal.com in the Advice section under Opinion on the left-hand corner of your computer screen.
