BRUNSWICK – The Theater Project will open its production of Thornton Wilder’s American classic “Our Town” Friday, May 4. The show will run three weekends, closing on May 20.

Theater Project veteran Christopher Price will direct a cast of eight who will take on 21 roles. Keith Anctil, Craig Ela, Al Miller, Wendy Poole, Reba Short, Heather Weafer, Michele Livermore Wigton and musician Jim Hall join Price, who will also play the Stage Manager.

Originally produced in 1938, “Our Town” was revolutionary in its lean approach to theater. ” ‘Our Town’ is, I believe, often misunderstood and continually produced as a simple nostalgic tale of an early 20 century New Hampshire town. Thornton Wilder was interested in a far deeper reality. He wanted to peel away the more literal, superficial trappings of theatrical productions of the time, and get to the essence- the impossibility of understanding what it is to be alive,” said Price.

Price played the Stage Manager in an earlier Theater Project production of “Our Town.” This time around as director, he has streamlined the play, combining Wilder’s no-frills approach to the script with his own interest in working with an ensemble cast.

Showtimes are at 7:30 Thursday, at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and at 2 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are pay-what-you-want with a suggestion of $15. For information and reservations, call The Theater Project box office at 729-8584, or visit the box office at 14 School St.
