WALES – Lakeside Chapter 60, Order of the Eastern Star, met April 8 when members granted a life membership to Frank Wood. He will attend in July to receive the award in person.

The chapter granted an honorary membership to Eleanor V. Peterson, PM, Pine Cone Chapter 26, Grand Representative to Australia, for her continued service to Lakeside.

Members remembered Durward F. Russell with an in memoriam. District 4 Deputy Grand Matron Ellen Broas was honored. She is ending her term this month. Ruth Wheeler, PM, was installed as Adah on April 14.

Susan A. Gaines, worthy grand matron of the Grand Chapter of Maine, was a surprise guest. She presented Elizabeth Leighton, worthy matron, with a commission as the Grand Representative of Massachusetts in Maine.

Gaines reminded all that the Order of the Eastern Star is the largest organization in the world for both men and women. It supports local charities, including Masonic learning centers for children with dyslexia in Portland and Bangor and a scholarship fund for religious studies, ESTARL.

Other grand representatives present were Cynthia Holbrook, New Mexico; Josephine Dupal, Minnesota; and Eleanor Peterson, Australia.

Lakeside will meet at the Masonic-Grange Hall on Centre Road to honor mothers and sideliners on Tuesday, May 8. The officers absent at the installation will take the obligation and be installed. They are: Rodney Woodrum Jr., associate patron; Sonia Woodrum, associate conductress; and Edward Webber, chaplain. After the meeting, there will be light refreshments.
