MEXICO – A Mexico woman remained in jail Wednesday night, charged with stabbing another woman in the face and back with a steak knife after a verbal confrontation.

Anna Maria Dimambro, 23, was being held at the Oxford County Jail on charges of aggravated assault and reckless conduct stemming from a fight with Melissa McIntire, 31, of Mexico at Dimambro’s apartment Friday night, according to Oxford County Superior Court records.

McIntire said she and Dimambro had been drinking when she told Dimambro “that she did not like her and thought she was crazy,” according to a report filed by Dean Benson of the Mexico Police Department. After a physical fight, McIntire said she started to leave the apartment when Dimambro stabbed her, according to the police report.

Dimambro said McIntire attacked her, so she stabbed her twice after failing to “get Melissa off her,” the report stated. She gave police permission to go into her residence, where they confiscated a knife and photographed bloodstains on a couch. The clothing the women were wearing at the time was also confiscated as evidence.

McIntire went to the Police Department to report the assault, then was taken to Rumford Hospital and on to Central Maine Medical Center.

Dimambro was found by police walking on Penobscot Street in Rumford and arrested.

Dimambro is being held on bail of $500 cash or $5,000 worth of real estate. She remained incarcerated at the Oxford County Jail in Paris as of late Wednesday afternoon. She is scheduled to appear in Superior Court July 17.
