AUBURN – The East Auburn and Pleasant Plains schools observed Arbor Day today with a general clean-up. Miss Bradford and Miss Bane conducted the usual recitations in the forenoon and in the afternoon directed the children in the work of cleaning up the yard.
VINETTE’S DOUGHNUTS – The following recipe is recommended by a Lewiston woman who says she always has good luck with it: Sift all together 2 cups flour, 1 teaspoon soda, 1 teaspoon cream of tartar, ¼ teaspoon ginger, ¼ teaspoon nutmeg, 1 teaspoon salt. To this when sifted add the yolks only to two eggs (if a little of the whites goes in, it doesn’t hurt), 1 cup of milk, 1cup of sugar, flour to roll.

BALTIMORE – A Mother’s Day card that puts in a plug for father was quickly sold out today at a downtown stationery store. Designed for hubby to send to wife, the front reads:
“You rate a lot of credit, dear, in one way or another…”
The inside winds up:

In an area known for its French ancestry and culture, Lewiston-Auburn appears to be experiencing a boom in “folk arts” that goes beyond French culture to embrace the art and music of almost all ethnic groups.
In recent months, Lewiston-Auburn has become the home of DownEast Friends of the Folk Arts, an organization promoting and supporting the folk arts statewide. In addition, it is home for a member of one of the Northeast’s most popular folk groups, while Bates College is offering a course in folk music.
