AUBURN – Plans for a 2007 Twin City Softball League, the best teams from Auburn and Lewiston, have been scrapped.

“The merger imploded and we are pursuing separate softball options in the community once again,” said Doug Beck, recreation superintendent of the Auburn Parks and Recreation Department.

So Auburn now has 18 teams in the Auburn Rec Players League. Beck said the league will play a 15-game schedule that begins next week.

Following is the opening week’s slate, with all games starting at 6:15 unless otherwise indicated:

Tuesday, May 15: Main-Land vs E.S.M., Lakeview-1; Tail Gators vs National Guard Thunder Cats, Tribou Field; Webber Avenue Club/Buckfield vs The Gamers, Pettengill; Interstate Batteries vs Hart Transportation, Pett., 7:30.

Wednesday: S&D Sheet Metal vs Gritty’s, Pett.; Retired Athletes vs Pride Concrete Floor, Lake-1; Sun Journal vs Uncle Andy’s, Tribou; Lincoln Street Radiator vs Major Automotive, Pett.; Meineke Muffler vs Brown’s Construction, Pett., 7:30.
