FRYEBURG – Despite making five errors, Fryeburg Academy remained unbeaten as it held on for a 5-3 victory over Sacopee Valley in softball.

Brylie Walker was 3-for-4 with a couple of runs and stolen bases for the Raiders (9-0). Heather Tripp also contributed a pair of singles and knocked in two in the win. Hanna Hill earned the victory on the mound.

Telstar 11, Wiscasset 1

WISCASSET – Junior catcher Sarah Field cracked a two-run single in the second to put Telstar up once and for all in an 11-1 tilt over Wiscasset in MVC softball action Saturday.

Rebels’ (9-0) sophomore third baseman Whitney Mills chipped in with a pair of runs and two hits. Senior second baseman Joseline Belanger contributed a pair of hits.

The Redskins (1-8) were paced by second baseman Foxy Buck with a pair of hits.

Tennis

Three qualify from Lewiston

LEWISTON – In Saturday’s matches held at Mt. Ararat, all three Lewiston girls tennis players qualified for the round of 40 to be held at Bates College from May 25 to 28.

Chantalle Lavertu, who was seeded No. 1, breezed through her two matches after receiving a bye. She defeated Alexandra McAuliffe from Waterville, 8-2, and then, Sarah Albertson from Camden, 6-0 and 6-2.

Katelyn Ouellette, who was the seventh seed, also drew a bye and met Cony’s No. 1 player, defeating her 8-1. She then qualified for the round of 40 by defeating Mt. Blue’s Xena Colby, 6-4, 6-0.

The big upset of the day was Julia Bergeron, who was an alternate for Ashley McWhorter. She met the No. 3 seed Maria Silva from Brunswick and defeated her, 6-1 and 6-2. Bergeron received a bye in the first round and defeated Margaret Kruitoff from Erskine Academy, 8-0 in the second round.
