Dear Sun Spots: In February I entered the Hidden Man Contest that was in the Coffee News, River Valley edition and supposedly I won a gift certificate to the Crossroads Diner in Bethel. As of today, I still have not received my prize. I have called 1-800-420-3535 and sent several e-mails to www.rvcoffeenews.com and still no response. Now when I try to call, no one answers the phone. – Fred Stone, Rumford.

Answer:
Sun Spots had the pleasure of talking with Tammy Smith, one of the franchise co-owners, who says both she and their Coffee News salesman have spoken to you several times. Smith says you need to go to the restaurant itself and pick up the certificate or use it during your visit. Smith says the restaurants sponsor the contests, and Coffee News calls their winners and advises them to pick up their gift certificates. In your case, you’ve won a gift certificate to either Mattie’s Pizza or Crossroads Diner and should contact each of them to see which one has your certificate for redemption.

Smith shared some of the history of Coffee News, a one-page publication, usually available in pizza stores, coffee shops and more. Coffee News is a worldwide franchise with more than 800 editions. Smith and President Rodney Hisler own six editions throughout Maine from Greenville to Newport, Skowhegan, Rumford and Bethel.

Dear Sun Spots: Thank you for the information on a cookbook for my convection oven. No more shoe-leather hamburgers!

Now my question: Could you please give me the address for Rosie O’Donnell on “The View.” I would like to write to her before she leaves the show, and I have no computer.

Thanks for all the help you give all of us who read Sun Spots. – No Name, Minot.

Answer: C
ontact O’Donnell at “The View,” 320 West 66th St., New York, NY 10023. You may also access information about this program on the Internet at www.abc.com/theview.

Dear Sun Spots: Thanks for this column. I have responded to requests in the past and now have one of my own. I purchased several skeins of yarn at Wal-Mart three years ago to make a baby afghan. I finished the afghan but find I have several skeins left over, more than enough to make another afghan, except for the baby green-colored skein. Wal-Mart no longer carries this type of yarn, and I couldn’t find it elsewhere. Would anyone have any leftover Redheart light green babyfingering yarn, ART. E.255? The yarn has a pearly white strand woven through the light green yarn. I would gladly pay a reasonable price. Please phone me after 5 p.m. at 512-2459. Thank you. – Valerie, No Town.
