LEWISTON – A decision not to accept Casella Waste Management’s offer to dig two new waste pits at the city’s landfill, and cover the costs of operating the facility with the hopes of bringing out-of-state trash into Maine, was not shot down by the city because of costs. The Maine Attorney General’s Office and the Department of Environmental Protection stopped the deal because of the possibility of the out-of-state debris. An A2 story Wednesday was unclear.
