OSHKOSH, Wis. – Bates College junior Noah Gauthier finished fifth in the men’s hammer throw at the NCAA Division III outdoor track and field championships Friday to earn All-America honors.

Competing in windy conditions, Guathier had the fourth-best throw in the preliminary round, 181 feet and 10 inches, to advance to the finals. Wisconsin-La Crosse senior Kevin Becker took first with a toss of 198-10.

Gauthier, who was awarded the New England Region Field Athlete of the Year earlier in the week, captured his first All-America award during the indoor season. He becomes the 11th Bates male athlete to win All-America honors in the hammer throw, and the Bobcats’ first outdoor All-American since Joe Northrup in 2005.

Kathryn Moore also became an All America by placing sixth in the 3,000 steeplechase. Her time was 10 minutes, 42.45 seconds.

Rich McNeil competed in the discus throw Thrusday, finishing in 14th place.
