DIXFIELD – Three people have returned nomination papers in a bid to serve the two years remaining on Selectman Brenda Turbide’s term.

Seeking election are:

• Norine H. Clarke, co-owner with her husband, Ralph, of Log Cabin Craftworks and a community activist;

• William L. Gallant, co-owner with his wife, Beverly, of the Bear-ly Inn and Restaurant; and

• Cynthia C. Welsh, a Weld Street resident.

Turbide has resigned her position, effective on June 12, because she no longer has the time to do the job.

Dixfield residents will also choose two people to fill two three-year terms when they go to the polls June 12. In those races, only two people are running for two seats.

Incumbent Selectman Raymond Carlton is seeking a second term, and James Desjardins, a retired postal employee, is running for the seat once held by former Selectman Tony Carter.

Less interest has been shown for a seat on the SAD 21 board. Incumbent school director Barbara Chow is running for another three-year term. Although incumbent director Shelley Harlow did not take out or return nomination papers for her seat, she said earlier in the month that she may run as a write-in candidate. If no one is elected, selectmen will likely appoint someone for one year, then search for nominees during next year’s election.

Dixfield residents will vote on the candidates, as well as several other issues, from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., June 12, at the Dixfield Fire Station.
