OXFORD – Mother Nature reigned supreme at the local short track Saturday night, as a full-blown summer thunderstorm – complete with hail, high winds and heavy downpours – rolled across Oxford Plains Speedway.

Just two feature races were completed after skies opened up to halt activities just before 8 p.m. The schedule called for a 100-lap Mini Stock feature to highlight the program, with support races from the Late Model, Strictly Stock and Runnin’ Rebel divisions to fill out the card.

As skies steadily darkened, all qualifying heats were completed without significant delay.

Jeff Hebert and Nick Stanley posted victories in two 20-lap Runnin’ Rebel features. Hebert picked up his first victory in two years with a strong performance in the first of two Runnin’ Rebel features. The Auburn native took the lead from Cole Flagg on lap three and hung on for top honors. Scott Farrington of Oxford challenged in the late going and finished second, while Flagg came home third. Kevin Noyes of Raymond and Brady Romano completed the top five.

Stanley earned his time in the spotlight with a wire-to-wire victory in the second 20-lap tilt for the Runnin’ Rebels. The Buckfield driver took control from the drop of the green flag and held off a hard-charging Tyson Jordan for top honors.

Josh Childs of Oxford ran up front the whole distance and finished third, while Kyle Hewins and Mark Childs Jr. rounded out the top five. As of press time, track officials had not finalized plans to complete the remaining features.
