LEWISTON – A baby sitter, five months pregnant, was arrested Wednesday night after drug agents said they found 15 grams of crack cocaine at her Mark Street home while she was caring for nine children in the backyard.

Kristina Fitzpatrick, 20, was charged with drug trafficking after police allegedly found crack in a safe and more stashed in a circuit box at her basement apartment at 2 Mark St.

Her boyfriend, 23-year-old Demetrius Cewayne Perry, was arrested when he drove into the driveway as agents were searching the home.

Police believe the couple, who moved to Lewiston after living in Michigan and Tennessee, were selling crack from their basement apartment at the ranch-style home.

“There were a number of folks going over there to score drugs, mostly in the evening hours when she was watching a number of children,” Maine Drug Enforcement Agency Supervisor Gerry Baril said. “That obviously puts a lot of kids at risk.”

Baril said his agents have been investigating Fitzpatrick, who goes by the name “33” on the street, for several weeks. She was known to live downtown and deal drugs there, Baril said, but recently moved out of that area.

Police found her living on Mark Street, a quiet area off Grove Street, near the Sabattus town line, and used confidential informants to confirm that she was still dealing crack.

In speaking of Fitzpatrick’s pregnancy, Baril said, “That’s certainly risky behavior. That raises questions about her state of mind.”

Drug agents, Lewiston police, members of the Central Maine Violent Crimes Task Force, a canine officer with Lisbon police, and an Auburn police officer arrived at the home shortly after 5 p.m. Wednesday.

Police said they found Fitzpatrick watching the children she had been hired to baby-sit. The owner of the house, and mother of four of the children, was contacted by phone and returned home from work.

Investigators said they also found $870 in cash and a digital scale when they searched Fitzpatrick and Perry’s apartment. Both were being held Thursday at the Androscoggin County Jail in Auburn, where bail was set at $10,000 each.

The street value of the cocaine was estimated at about $2,000.
