SALEM – Jenn Lola and Kristen Colton combined for four hits and four RBIs to lift fifth-seed Monmouth to a 5-3 victory over No. 4 Mt. Abram in the Western Class C softball quarterfinals.

The Mustangs rallied with three runs in the fifth for the win.

Brittany Hilton gave up five hits for Monmouth, while Loghan Walker was tagged with the loss.

Fryeburg 4, Oak Hill 0

FRYEBURG – Hannah Hill hurled seven innings of three-hit ball and helped her own cause at the plate as Fryeburg rolled to a 4-0 shutout over Oak Hill in the Western Class B softball quarterfinals.

Hannah Hill tallied two hits, while Dani Hill belted a triple. After taking a 2-0 lead into the fourth inning, Fryeburg added two more on throwing errors by Oak Hill.

Angie Hill had four strikeouts in the loss.

Georges Valley 6, St. Dom’s 5

THOMASTON – Brittany Worcester belted two hits and had three RBIs to lead second-seed Georges Valley to a 6-5 victory over St. Dom’s in the Western Class C softball quarterfinals.

Ashley Geel chipped in for the Buccaneers (14-2) with three hits and one RBI, while Desiree Smith tallied two hits with one RBI.

The No. 7 Saints were paced byMicaela Kelly and Mary Lewis withtwo hits apiece, while Jenn Cullen was saddled with the loss after an eight-strikeout performance. St. Dom’s fought back with two runs in both the fifth and six innings.

Cony 6, Oxford Hills 1

SOUTH PARIS – Mika Wilson gave up four hits and drew strong run support as Cony rolled past third-seed Oxford Hills 6-1 in the Eastern Class A softball quarterfinals.

Chelsea Soule led the Rams with three hits, while Meghan Cloutier belted two hits with one RBI. Jess Gordon also contributed with an RBI single.

The Vikings (13-4) missed two chances to add more runs in the sixth inning. Jen Jurczak and Sam Dolloff handled pitching duties for Oxford Hills.

Brewer 1, Mt.Blue 0

BREWER – Jordan McLain allowed one hit and struck out 13 as Brewer escaped with a 1-0 softball victory over Mt. Blue in the Eastern Class A tournament on Thursday.

Meghan McLean’s two-out RBI single in the bottom of the sixth proved to be the difference for the Witches (14-3) as they advance to the Eastern Class A semifinals.

Despite allowing just one hit, Megan Richard suffered the loss for the Cougars (11-7), who committed three errors in the contest.

Cape Elizabeth 4, Poland 1

CAPE ELIZABETH – Brianna Balfour smashed a three-run home run in the first inning to lead Cape Elizabeth to a 4-1 victory over Poland on Thursday in the quarterfinals of the Western Class B softball playoffs.

Trisha Thibodeau gave up two hits for Cape Elizabeth to notch the win.

Leading the Knights were catcher Dani Belanger with an RBI single, while Alicia Dube belted a double. Kristen Simpson put in a strong performance on the hill for Poland, giving up four hits.

Jay 8, Madison 6 (8 inn.)

MADISON – Kaylie DeMillo belted a two-run double in the eighth inning to lift No. 6 Jay to an 8-6 victory over third-ranked Madison in the Western Class C quarterfinals.

DeMillo led the Tigers (10-6) with three hits and three RBIs, while Emily Boivin and Zena Armandi tallied two hits each. Daydra Loon gave up six hits on the hill for Jay to record the win.

Jessica Romano paced Madison (14-3) with two hits and two RBIs, while Ashley Marandola was the losing pitcher.

Baseball

Greely 8, Oak Hill 2

CUMBERLAND – Caleb Jordan gave up four hits and struck out eight as Greely rolled past Oak Hill 8-2 in a Western Class B quarterfinal matchup Thursday afternoon.

Rob Ray led Greely (15-2) with two hits and two RBIs, while the Raiders (10-8) were paced by Tim Levesque with two hits.

Chris Ellis was relieved by Levesque in the sixth and was tagged with the loss.

Winthrop 9, Georges Valley 1

WINTHROP – Forrest Dwyer fired a four hitter and received plenty of run support as Winthrop made quick work of Georges Valley with a 9-1 rout in the Western Class C quarterfinal baseball action Thursday afternoon.

Dave Ricker led the Ramblers (13-2) with two hits and two RBIs, while Tyler Cobb and Kyle Plossay belted two hits each.

The Buccaneers (8-9) were paced by Thomas Woodman with two hits, while Elisha Sprague was tagged with the loss.

Gardiner 12, Lewiston 3

GARDINER – Sean McNally belted a grand slam in the second inning to propel Gardiner to a 12-3 victory over seventh-ranked Lewiston in Eastern Class A quarterfinal baseball action Thursday.

The No. 2 Tigers, who will host Brewer on Saturday, were led by McNally with two hits and four RBIs, while Mike Abbott, Dan Fortune and Roland Kennerson also tallied two hits each. John Bobroweckie gave up four hits on the hill to post the win.

Erik Waite led the Blue Devils (10-8) with an RBI double. Ryan Dube and Josh Leino handled pitching duties for Lewiston.

Maranacook 5, Lisbon 4

READFIELD – Justin Denbow belted a grand slam in the third inning to lead No. 4 Maranacook to a 5-4 victory over fifth-ranked Lisbon in the Western Class B quarterfinals.

The Greyhounds (13-3) fought back from a 5-1 deficit and had runners on base in the top of the seventh, but came up just short.

Denbow led the Black Bears with two hits, while Mike Harwood picked up the win. Lisbon saw Kyle Neagle give up eight hits on the hill in the hard-fought loss.
