Aviation health experts are warning that David Beckham will be at a high risk of getting deep-vein thrombosis if he commutes frequently between England and Los Angeles to play soccer next season. I know deep-vein thrombosis is nothing to sneeze at, but I’d feel a lot better if the aviation health experts worried a little bit more about people flying with communicable disease.

Mountain man

Ernest Hofstetter, who was part of the Swiss expedition that forged the path for Sir Edmund Hillary to conquer Mount Everest died at age 95. Hofstetter was part of a Swiss team that in 1952 made it just short of the peak. Hillary and Tenzing Norgay made it to the summit a year later following that path. It may not sound like much, but this is before every Tom, Dick and Harry was climbing Everest for their senior class trip, so Mr. Hofstetter deserves a little respect.
