LEWISTON – Tyler Merchant singled in the game-winning run in the top of the ninth inning as Gilman Electric of Mechanic Falls defeated Gayton Post 4-3 in Lewiston on Saturday morning.

Gilman Electric’s Jake Pelletier came on in relief for starting pitcher Will Griftiths in the fifth inning and completely shut down Gayton’s offense. Pelletier notched six strikeouts while not allowing a single hit in earning his and the team’s first win.

Shortstop Eddie West put Gayton ahead 3-2 in the third inning with a bases-clearing double.

Andy Valley 4, Smith-Tobey 3

TURNER – Jacob Marceau doubled in Zach Keene for the game-winning run in the eighth inning as Andy Valley legged out a 4-3 victory over Smith-Tobey on Saturday morning.

Keene, who had doubled in the sixth inning, led off the eighth with a single for his third hit of the game, before Marceu plated him with his double.

With two on and two out, Scott Rogers clubbed a two-run single to put Smith-Tobey (0-1) on top 2-0 in the first inning. Pitcher Timothy Doyle walked the leadoff and third batters he faced to open the game for Andy Valley (1-0), before settling down to strike out seven in six innings.

Northern Oxford County 8, Bessey Motors 6

SOUTH PARIS – Spencer Berry smashed a single for the go-ahead run in the ninth inning as Northern Oxford County clipped Bessey Motors, 8-6, on Saturday morning.

Dan Millett was hit by a pitch in the first inning and eventually scored, while plating a pair of runs in the sixth inning on a single, giving Bessey Motors (0-1) a 3-3 tie through six.

Bessey Motors continued to keep pace with Northern Oxford County (1-0) until the final frame. Sam Snow evened things up again in the bottom of the eighth with a two-run single.

Justin Staires came on in relief in the bottom of the ninth and struck out the side for the save.
