NORWAY – William D. Andrews, author of “Stealing History,” a Maine mystery set at a busy historical society and museum, and Janet Galle, author of “Two Farms: Essays on a Maine Country Life,” will sign copies of their books Saturday, July 7, at Books N Things.

Infused with history and delightful characters, “Stealing History” begins on a suspenseful note after newcomer Julie Williamson takes the job as director at the historical society in a Maine mountain town. Soon after, some of the museum’s most valuable artifacts, including a letter from Abraham Lincoln to Hannibal Hamlin, turn up missing. And this is followed up with a murder hits especially close to home for Williamson.

A consultant, freelance editor and writer, Andrews divides his time between Newry and Portland. This is his first novel.

“Two Farms” is based on Galle’s keen observations about the Maine woods, countryside and her family’s two farms – first a saltwater farm in Brunswick and later Apple Creek Farm in Bowdoinham, where she still lives. A collection of essays, it covers such topics as beloved pets and farm animals, child rearing, and nature’s impact and influence in our lives.

A naturalist, farmer, shepherd, teacher and mother, Galle grew up in Indiana and moved to mid-coast Maine in 1963 with her husband. She has taught high-school English for nearly two decades. “Two Farms” is her second book. She also co-authored “Exploring Ecology.”

Both books were published by Maine-based Islandport Press.

The book signings will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the store at 430 Main St. For more information, call 739-6200.

Andrews will also read from and discuss his book beginning at noon Tuesday, July 10, at the Maine Historical Society, at 489 Congress St., Portland.
