INDIANAPOLIS – Katie Douglas scored a career-high 30 points to lead the Connecticut Sun to a 78-74 victory over the Indiana Fever on Friday night.

Asjha Jones had 16 points, including a three-point play to give Connecticut a 76-74 lead with 27 seconds left. Margo Dydek finished with 10 points and 10 rebounds for the Sun (5-7), who snapped a five-game losing streak.

Tamika Whitmore and Tan White each had 15 points for the Fever (9-3). Tamika Catchings added nine points, 12 rebounds and seven assists.

Tied at 71, Lindsey Whalen’s basket put Connecticut ahead by two, before White hit a 3-pointer to put the Fever back in front, 74-73. After Jones’ 3-point play, Indiana’s Anna DeForge missed a jumper that would have tied the game, and Douglas nailed two free throws for the final margin.

Silver Stars 70, Liberty 63

NEW YORK – Becky Hammon scored 19 points in her first game back at Madison Square Garden to help San Antonio win its third straight.

Hammon, sent to the Silver Stars (7-4) in a draft-day trade in April, scored seven points in the fourth quarter – including four free throws in the final 21/2 minutes.

Vickie Johnson, who spent nine seasons in New York before signing with the Silver Stars before last season, added 14 points and Camille Little had 11.

Ashley Battle scored 17 points to lead the Liberty (7-5), who have lost five of seven after opening the season with five wins. Jessica Davenport finished with 11 points and Cathrine Kraayeveld had 10.

Lynx 78, Storm 76

MINNEAPOLIS – Seimone Augustus scored 23 points, including the go-ahead jumper with five seconds left, to help Minnesota win for the fourth time in five games.

Rookie Lindsey Harding added 16 points for the Lynx (4-10), who started the season a franchise-worst 0-7.

Augustus scored 14 points in the third quarter as Minnesota rebounded from a 39-35 halftime deficit and avenged a 90-76 drubbing at the hands of Seattle two weeks ago.

Lauren Jackson scored 16 and Betty Lennox 18 for the Storm (5-6).

Sue Bird almost single-handedly won the game for Seattle. The veteran nailed a 3-pointer and a jumper to tie the game with under 20 seconds to play. But Seattle turned the ball over with 12 seconds left, setting up Augustus’ winning jumper from the top of the key.

Comets 95, Mystics 85

HOUSTON – Tina Thompson scored 23 points and Houston won its second game of the season – and of the week.

Rookie Ashley Shields added 20 points and Hamchetou Maiga-Ba had 16 for the Comets (2-10), who beat Los Angeles 74-64 on Wednesday.

DeLisha Milton-Jones scored 24 points, and Nakia Sanford had 21 and 11 rebounds for the Mystics (2-10).

The Comets, who outrebounded Washington 33-23, took the lead for good in the third quarter on Sancho Lyttle’s layup with 8:20 to go.

Sanford had 15 points in the first half and made 13 free throws before attempting her first field goal with 2:58 to go. After missing the shot, Sanford made the put-back to give the Mystics a 40-34 lead.
