WINTHROP – Summer field trips and events with the Kennebec Land Trust start with a trail dedication and family walk on July 14 at Parker Pond Headland in Fayette. The dedication will be held from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

Leaders will be Deb Sewall, KLT president, stewards Glenn Hodgkins and Clyde Walton, and Bill Rogers of the Parker Pond Association.

The beautiful hike is on the new 1.5-mile Headland Trail. All ages are welcome. This conservation land can be accessed by canoe or kayak or from the Fellows Cove Road.

Other events are:

• July 26, a presentation by Bridget Stutchbury, author of Silence of the Songbirds at 7 p.m. at the Ladd Recreation Center in Wayne. Stutchbury was formerly a research associate at the Smithsonian Institution and is currently professor of biology at York University in Toronto. She is is recognized as an international birding expert, and is affiliated with many organizations seeking to preserve bird habitats. This event is sponsored by Vaughan Homestead Foundation and KLT.

• July 29, a Maine Mycological Association Foray from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Webber-Rogers Farmstead Conservation Area in Litchfield. Visit the 117-acre conservation area with Michaline Mulvoy, a mushroom expert. Bring a basket for your collection and a magnifying glass if you have one. Participants are welcome to bring specimens from home for identification, especially if you have something unusual. Leaders are: Michaline Mulvoy, MMA, Paul Johnson, KLT Steward, and George and Judy Rogers, easement donors.

• August 4, the Great Wayne Fair Family Canoe Trip at Perkins Woods, Androscoggin Lake in Wayne from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Bring your canoe or kayak, and bathing suit if you like to swim. We’ll meet at the state boat launch on Route 133 in Wayne and paddle across the cove to the KLT Perkins Property. Leaders: Jane and Stan Davis, KLT Stewards

The preserve protects a stunning 100 acre forested peninsula and 5,000 feet of rocky undeveloped shore line on Parker Pond. The Headland was protected by KLT and the Parker Pond Association in 2004 with support from the Lands for Maine’s Future. Join us for these fun events.
